Telescopic springs for ball and lead screws

Armour Up with Premium Telescopic Springs

Protecting ball screws, lead screws, threads, and guide columns against dirt, swarf, and mechanical damage requires specialised defensive armour. Hennig’s telescopic springs are engineered to provide superior protection. Also known as spring guards or spiral springs, these coils of hardened high-grade spring steel ensure excellent defense, even when fully extended.

The key to our telescopic springs lies in an overlap of the individual windings by at least 40%. Built-in optimal resilience and our proprietary manufacturing method ensure effortless compression and extension. Horizontal telescopic springs exhibit minimal sag, while vertically installed springs maintain only slight lateral deviation, ensuring consistent performance in all orientations.

Telescopic Spring Assembly and Maintenance

For horizontal applications, we recommend installing the springs with the larger diameter nearest to the swarf accumulation area. For vertical applications, position the large diameter at the top. The maximum deflection in horizontal installations is approximately 2–3% of the maximum mounting length, ensuring stability and longevity of the system.

Benefits of Using Hennig Telescopic Springs

  • Enhanced Protection: Shields critical components from debris and mechanical stress.
  • Durable Construction: Made from high-grade spring steel for long-lasting performance.
  • Easy Installation: Designed for straightforward assembly in both horizontal and vertical setups.
  • Versatile Applications: Suitable for various industries requiring reliable screw protection.

Frequently asked questions

What are telescopic springs?

Telescopic springs are specialized components designed to protect rotating machine parts such as shafts and spindles from dirt, chips, and mechanical damage, thereby preventing operational accidents.

What are telescopic springs made of?

Our telescopic springs are crafted from blue carbon steel or high-grade stainless steel. They are supplied with a light oil film to ensure frictionless operation and extended durability.

When should I use telescopic springs?

Telescopic springs are ideal for use over rotating parts where chips may be present or where dust and other particulates are bound in coolant, oil, or liquid. They are specifically designed for lower speed operations of up to 40 m/min with an acceleration of less than 0.5g.

How are telescopic springs mounted?

It's crucial to specify whether the spring is used in a horizontal or vertical orientation, as the winding differs accordingly. They can be mounted over an end or, in some cases, wound over a shaft in retrofit situations (special installation instructions available). Centering flanges (also known as pilots and retainers) are available as optional accessories.

Are there standard sizes for telescopic springs?

Absolutely. We offer approximately 1,200 standard sizes. Non-standard sizes can also be provided if they meet specific criteria. If you require particular sizes, we will first offer the nearest standard size before considering exact specifications.
